Stress And Weight Gain

Stress is a major factor that contributes to weight gain, and the stress hormone that is responsible for this is Cortisol.

An excess of cortisol slows down the body metabolism, leading to weight gain. Stress also  increases the body’s cravings for fatty, salty and sugary food, and results in overeating.  Due to this, the person consumes unhealthy food in excess and starts gaining weight.

Prolonged stress also leads to accumulation of abdominal fat, another major cause for concern. Lack of any exercise, primarily due to over exhaustion caused by stress, is also another factor which causes weight gain.
